Hydrofoil Technology is One of the Main Areas in Navarc's R&D Agenda

Hydrofoil Teknolojisi Navarc’ın AR-GE Gündemindeki Temel Alanlardan Biri

One of the ways to achieve higher energy efficiency in marine vehicles may be not only to improve the propulsion system but also to change the way the hull comes into contact with the water.

Hydrofoil technology offers a different approach at this point.

Special hydrodynamic wings located under the boat produce lift when sufficient speed is achieved.

This force can lift a portion of the hull above the water, helping to reduce the wet surface area and associated hydrodynamic resistance.

However, according to Navarc's approach, developing a successful foil system does not only mean adding a wing under the fuselage.

Foil geometry, lift center, body center of gravity, structural loads, propulsion system and control architecture must be evaluated together.

Therefore, hydrofoil development; It is considered as a multidisciplinary field that combines hydrodynamic analysis, structural analysis and control systems under the same engineering problem.

Volster Hydrofoil is one of the platforms that represents Navarc's product approach in this field.

Considering that energy storage capacity and total system weight are important, especially in electric marine vehicles, technologies that can reduce hydrodynamic resistance are gaining more importance.

The goal of Navarc's foil work is not just higher speed.

At the same time, to develop new marine vehicle architectures that have lower energy needs, different driving characteristics and can work with more advanced active control systems in the future.
